Video card question

I have a Asus p45 mobo. The video card i have (evga 9800gt) is so long it blocks one of the sata ports. My question is since im not a heavy gamer and i dont count fps would it matter if i put the card in the 8x slot instead of the 16x slot? The only game i really play is Command and Conquer Tiberium Wars. other than that i just surf the web, watch movies (hi def), video encoding,Microsoft office apps, and some online flash games. My monitor is a dell widescreen with a native resolution of 1920x1080. Does someone like me need to keep the card in the 16x slot? Thanks for any info
