i have a gamer machine, a 2.4 p4 with a gig of ram, a 6800gt, and 1280x1024 native res lg 19" lcd. i have a pvr machine, an 1700xp with 512 ram, a 9600 aiw and a 19" crt. i needed a second machine for some head to head with racing sim gtr. this program uses a video setup stand alone program to set the base video system for the sim. it shows the card name, a list of resolutions, refresh freq, and a check box for fsaa and a pull down for the level, ie. 2x 3x etc. whenever i have run this utility, it always has defaulted to 800x600 16bit res. no matter what choice i select, 1280x1024 32bit for instance, the sim never looks different, and opening the utility always comes back to the 800x600 deal. the fsaa pull down gives me 2x, 3x, and 4x options.
interestingly, when i installed the sim to the pvr, it defaults to wat windows is set to, in this case 1024x768, 32bit, and and offers fsaa mulitpliers of 2x, 4x and 6x. it would almost seem like the 9600 is more capable then the 6800gt, although you would not think so. is this an anomoly of the different drivers and manufacturers? theoretically, gtr is nvidia optimized, they blast the logo during startup. i have the latest drivers in both machines. for the record, i can run the 6800 at higher detail than the 9600 without framerate loss. does anyone have any thoughts about this ? thank you zz03
