Video Card Problems

My hard drive died and I had to install a new one. When I did, the video card never came up to be configured and is not listed in devices. Can I just take it out and put it back in and see if it will come up? It says STB systems and Dell V128 on the card. What can I do? Am I even asking the right question? Do I need a new video card? I know the old one was 8MB...

Are you able to boot into windows? Install windows? Do you have any OS installed?

I installed Windows ME on the new hard drive and everything else is working fine. (I think) But I don't have the resolution on the monitor that I used to, so I checked for the video card and didn't see it listed. Does a video card have to be configured for a monitor to work?

Go into the control panel and check your system. What is listed under display adapters?

I'll have to check when I get back home - hopefully someone will be around to help then...

I'm guessing this is where I find the video card information instead of where it says "sound, video, and game controllers"? In that case, maybe it is installed, but it doesn't have the right driver? I had a LOT of trouble finding (and installing) the drivers because I cannot find the original disk that came with it (or maybe it didn't have one - I bought it refurb).

The steps i gave above is exactly where you will find the video card. Right now it appears that the card is using the generic windows driver and that explains why you may not be able to change the resolution and such. Find the newest driver and you will be good to go.
