Video card problem with MSI K7T-Pro2

Hi, got this board as a replacement (the original died suddenly, the usual story with this series of MSI boards) and no matter what I do, 3D acceleration is disabled under WinXP pro (it works fine under WinME). The card is a Hercules Prophet II MX (original GF2 MX). I also tried a Visiontek GF2 GTS-V with the same problem. Basically, games would not work with 3D acceleration. I also checked DirectX Diagnostics tools and the 3D acceleration and AGP texturing tests would fail (again, it works fine under WinME). I have the latest BIOS for the mobo, latest VIA 4-in-1, latest Detonators. I tried different settings under the BIOS (like setting it to AGP 2x, etc...) all with the same result.
System specs:

AMD Duron 1ghz.
512mb of Crucial PC133 CAS2 (2-128mb, 1-256mb, all DIMM slots occupied)
Promise ATA100 PCI controller, Maxtor 40gb, 5400rpm
SB live! 5.1 sound card
D-link NIC
Enermax 350w PSU

Does anybody have similar probs? Thanks!🙂

If it all works in winme that suggests the hardware all works fine and there is a problem with win XP... i would try older drivers of the video card (or the microsoft certified drivers, thr the same version of drivers that are sucessful in win ME, and via 4 in 1 drivers where possible) ) and also be looking very closely to see if there are any errors reported with direct X.

do any opengl apps work (even open gl screen savers?)

Failing that, a complete re-install may need to be tried...

let us know how it goes... 🙂

I have reformatted the HD and reinstalled XP so many times it makes me dizzy😉. Anyway, the same Detonator and VIA driver versions work with WinME. I've tried the default VIA drivers that comes with WinXP and I've tried every 4.** version. No go. As for Nvidia, I have every version that came up for WinXP and still no go.
