Video card problem: please help!

My friend just got a new video card. It is a Radeon 9600pro. When we installed it, the PC wouldnt post. So we jiggled it and reseated and no luck. So we figured we would put the old card back in (old card is nVidia GeForce2 MX) and poke around the bios. We did that and found nothing. But we tried the new card again anyway and it worked. So we installed drivers and tried to reboot. Again machine wouldnt post. So we put the old card back in. Restarted then shut down put the new card in and it booted fine. This has worked several more times. But every time we restart we need to put the old card in then turn off and put the new one in. Any ideas?
thanks,

Did you remove all the NVidia drivers first before installing the new card? Also does the card have a power connector on it, if so did you plug it in? You may also want to try the card on another machine and see if it works on it. If it doesn't you may need to RMA the card. Hope this helps.
