Video card problem (I think)

My problem is that my computer keeps freezing whenever I load any game, or look at certain types of videos on the web (the ones that play in an embedded windows media player). My current setup is a AMD 3000+ running windows XP service pack 1 and my video card is a Geforce 6800XT 512 mb. This is the first time i've had problems since i set it up in about mid july.

What happens is, if I load a game or watch some videos on the internet, everything runs fine for a few seconds and then the whole screen turns into fuzzy gray or blue lines. In order to do anything, I have to restart my computer.

I *think* it's a problem with my videocard, and to that extent I've tried reinstalling the drivers, which did not help. I've also tried uninstalling the last thing I installed (which was java), and, when that did not work, I tried doing system restore to a few days before the problem started occuring. This did not fix the problem either.

I know the fan on the video card is working and it does not seem to be overheating, the temperature monitor itself shows a normal temperature and the card itself isn't overly hot, as my computer case is open.

Can you guys think of anything else I should try if the problem is with my video card, or, if not, what else I can do to fix it?

Did you put the whole system together in mid-July or just upgrade the video card? What power supply do you have?

Do you have your old video card still? I'd try installing that to see if you have the same problem.

I would also run Memtest86 just to make sure your RAM is good. When I had a problem like this, it was because of bad RAM.

You might also run dxdiag and run the DirectDraw and Direct3D tests. To run dxdiag, go to Start, Run, and type dxdiag in the Run box.
