Yes, the prices will drop just as soon as something better comes out, or just as soon as you go and buy a x800xt. Either way, when they do, you'll want something even better then. That being said, unless you find a good deal on a card (aka x800xl on pcie), I wouldn't invest a lot of money into current technology what with next gen cards being so close to (paper)release.

Yeah i was checking prices.

The x800xt all in wonder cost 389 with a 50 dallor mail in rebate.

So that puts it about 40 bucks more then an XL. Hm...

Can an XL play hl2 all in full settings for a dell 20.1 inch widescreen monitor?

Since it looks like you're using a agp motherboard, the xl is not such a good deal, because it costs about the same as a 6800gt, which has some newer features. I'd recommend getting that instead, and yes, you can run HL2 on it at full settings.

However, if you only plan on playing HL2 or CS:S, then an xt or xl might be a better choice since ati cards do better in that game. The xt and xl should both handle it at full settings and high res, but the xt is somewhat faster.

If anything prices will go up. We all know how much more valuable things become when they're "antiques". I would definitely get that card now before it's too late!

Good point. Better get a couple of 512mb 6800 ultras in SLI before they're all gone.

Just get the XL man.

It will perform better than the Nvidia cards if your forcusing on CS:S and HL2.

And yes, it will play with high settings.

You probably wont be able to apply aa/af ( due to the resoloution ) but you can have the game settings on high.

EDIT: No doubt you get more for the AIW but if your like me, I would never use the features on the AIW.

Tough choice for $40.

nah.. don't bother. todays cards can handle all the games that will come out within the next year or more: they are coming out with newer cards so people will B U Y them and companies will make even more money. sole purpose, its part of B U S I N E S S and marketing. don't fall for it. but try to find a good deal on a next gen or pci e

it's an x850 pro by Sapphire

I want a card that i can turn on AA and AF for CS source.

9800 pro can do that......

He is using the Dell 2005, with aa and af your gonna see a drop in performance.

Listen, the XL will be able to do 2aa/8af, even 4aa/8af but since your res is so high your gonna see a drop in performance.

The differance between the XL and XT is minor.

Most likily you will be able to that 4aa/8af with the xl an maintain +50 fps.

Thanks for the info!

I just checked my FPS and i currently get around 25-30fps. Everynow and then it might spike pu to 60. lol

The video card prices had been pretty glacial, but over the past month they've finally started to thaw and we're seeing deals (significant price drops) on multiple cards at the same time. It's really accelerated over the past two weeks.

The 9800 Pro has come down some, falling as far as $125 shipped at one point.

The 9600 XT came down to $98 shipped.

6600 GT's can be had for $159 shipped after rebate (with the lowest price having been $149).

6800 GT's have been going for $300 shipped and (available right now) $269 shipped after rebate.

Even the venerable BFG 6800 (vanilla) came down to $200 + shipping.

The prices for the 6600 GT's haven't come down too much. It would be nice to see the deals for them spike down to $140 shipped.

Thats not entirely correct. Except for uber top of the line cards, ie 5950Ultra, 6800Ultra EE, X850XT/PE, all cards should fall 2x in price once new generation comes out. Look at 9800Pro/5900xt = $150 right now. It doesnt make sense to buy anything faster than X800xl and 6800GT at $250/300 price levels right now since those $400+ cards will drop to $250/300 levels, yet 6800GT will probably go to $200 and below within 6 months (when mid-range R520/G70 cards come out at $250/200).
