First, the pictures: first one is a little difficult to tell what's going on. But, in this picture, it's clear something is wrong.
This is a brand new system (Asus P5B-E, Core 2 Duo E6400, 2 gigs of Corsair XMS, 650w OCZ GameXstream PSU) and the vid card, a Radeon X1950 Pro, is also obviously brand new. It's running a clean install of Windows with the latest BIOS for the motherboard and latest drivers for the video card. I can thrash on the CPU all I want and the system is fine (thus far), but if I play a game for more than a few minutes, I get what you see in the pictures, and then the system freezes.
I also get some odd effects when I reboot that sometimes the shutdown screen stays on the monitor (usually in a slightly mangled fashion) and it takes power cycling the monitor to refresh properly. Weird effect and difficult to describe.
The only other card in the system is an Audigy 2 ZS that I've removed to make sure it's not conflicting. I also have the Asus Probe running so I can observe CPU and motherboard temperatures, and they're never exceeding acceptable temperatures (again, I can thrash on the CPU and it seems okay).
So I guess what I'm asking at this point is if everything thinks the vid card is overheating. I can see, clearly, that the fan is spinning. Airflow to the fan is unobstructed (and even includes a 25cm fan blowing toward it). I've never suffered from an overheating video card before, so I'm not positive this is what's happening.
Again, I humbly ask for assistance from those of you wiser than I. My thanks in advance.
