Video card overclocking

I'm getting a Radeon X850XT and was wondering how people overclock their cards. I've seen people get this card up to Platinum Edition levels, but I always wondered what program to use. I know ATI supplies an Overdrive program, but I'm not so sure about software-based overclocking. Can you OC a video card from the BIOS? Or is that Overdrive the only way to go?

In certain cases you can OC with a bios flash, but it's more risky. Software OC is safer and more flexible - you can oc to the exact speed you want, not whats set in the bios.

ati tool, rivatuner, coolbits. the last two are for NVidia, although i believe that rivatuner can be used on ati cards.
