Bad Video Card or TV Tuner?
Relevant Components:
Windows Media Center 2005
Foxconn 865G 865A01-G-6EKRS mobo
P4/3.0EGHz 800M 478P
ROSEWILL 512MB PC3200 x2
XFX Nvidia Geforce 6800 128MB 256-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X (includes s/video out) w/Nvidia Forceware 71.84 drivers and Nvidia DVD decoder v1.00.67
Hauppauge WinPVR-250MCE w/ 1.18.21.22247 drivers
(Monitor 1 - DVI) 21" Sony Trinitron FD IBM P260 655223N
(monitor 2 - S/video) 32" Sony CRT TV
FSB Blue Storm 500W PSU
NO OVERCLOCKING
Problem:
Sometimes (not all the time) when I load a game like Doom 3 or Vice City, my monitor goes blank and instead of loading the splash screen for the game, monitor 1 acts like there is no input signal coming through. It displays "NO INPUT ON 1 OR 2", then turns completely off after a few seconds (as if I had shut down the computer). Monitor 2 (TV) works fine, and I can hear the audio from the game so I know it loaded.
I can solve this problem by putting the PC into standby (S3), or by restarting. Once back from Standby, it works fine.
When I restart however, I get the New Hardware found Wizard for a 'Multimedia Video Controller'. This I believe is my Tuner Card because when I try to watch Live TV in Media Center, I get a 'No Tuner Installed' error. MCE App loads fine.
Now if I restart the computer again, everything works. I have no problem loading the aforementioned games or Live TV in Media Center.
I've noticed that the problem usually happens when I change video settings within the game (Resolution, AA, Quality, etc), or when I switch the default monitor over to the TV so that I can play games on the TV instead of the monitor.
Question is:
Is it the Video Card or TV Tuner that's causing these issues?
I thought it may be a PSU problem. Logic was that the system wasn't getting enough power and would therefore cause the monitor to think the computer was turned off; resulting in the NO INPUT error from the monitor. So I replaced the PSU that came with the case with the FSB Blue Storm. That obviously wasn't the case.
