Video card options

Right now i've got a Gf4 Ti 4200 64mb and i'm looking to upgrade it. I've only got about $75 to work with though so is there anything out there now worth it upgrading to or should I just hold out for a couple months?

Yeah, for $75 the best thing you could probably get is...a Geforce 4 🙂

That's what I've got, and it still works just fine for modern games, even if you can't use max settings on Farcry or Doom 3.

Are you looking to play games?? In your situation the cheapest card i'd recommend is a $150 9700 pro. Anything below that would not give you enough benifit for the cost. There are many options ahaead of the 9700 pro though for a bit more if you have a bit of cash to play with. You can even find 9800 pros for ~$200.

If you're upgrading from a Ti-4200, there is not much you can go below 9800 pro. Maybe FX5900 XT.

In your case the lowest card I would step up to would be a 9700Pro for $164 (9700non-pro is $150)
5900xt for $170 is not bad either. Radeon 9800Pro for $192 is the next step up.

The 9600xt isn't a bad card either and you can get them for about $140 dollars depending on where you are looking.

So the general concensus is in the 9X00 pro area or sticking it out w/ the 4200 for a little bit?
CS and BF1942 are my games at the moment and I dont really foresee playing much of Doom3 if any which is why i'm kinda reserved on getting anything real fancy at the moment

jsut hold on to your GF4 for a while. Hopefully the prices on the new gen cards will dsrop even more. And your GF4 should be able to play doom 3 fine. But with less details. I think HardOCP are going to bench doom 3 with all cards from gf3 up to gf 6800 this week. might want to look into that and then decide what you want to do.
