Video Card not getting enough power

dbk

Nvidia 7900GTX (I think) has one 6 pin power port. I plugged in with a 6 pin from my power supply but I'm still getting a "not enough power" warning on boot and the card runs at half core and mem. Same result in another machine. One of the pins on the connected was corroded so I cleaned it up with a rubbing alcohol and resolder the joint. However, it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

what wattage power supply are you running? It could be a case where your powersupply is the correct wattage, but it has single rail voltage. Might have enough wattage, but not enough amps... something to check into. 🙂

Good luck!

It's a brand new CX430 v2 also tried on another machine with a HX520

It's the same concept as what created your card originally. Introduce hot air at a temp which allows the solder to reflow (183c). Sometimes the constant heating/cooling cycles during normal operation will degrade the solder joints. Crazy stuff! 🙂

7900GTX is old. Time to replace it. 🙂

Get a 7770 if you're not into "serious" gaming, otherwise look into a 760GTX.
