Video card not coming sealed : (

So I just got my asus gtx460 from newegg and things are suspicious to me. Box wasn't sealed (not even those clear stickers over the opening slots), card wasn't in any sort of anti-static bag, and the driver cd wasn't in the paper sleeve it came with (said paper sleeve is somewhat smashed up too). Can't really see any wear on the card, and I haven't tried using it yet; I don't know if I should complain to newegg about this.

Ive noticed this on Motherboards and other PC components a lot. Its probably fine. It would be nice if they sealed everything properly even RMAs.

I seen graphic's cards just come in a molded plastic piece now. But the CD just loose ? I would complain. If your not in a rush, do it right and get it replaced.

Newegg, Frys, Amazon = all the same shit.
You are not the first one. Very shady practices.

At least with Microcenter, they will mark down the price and sell it as truely "open box".

No profanity in tech forums please.

^ Yep I only had one problem with them. Back in 05 I received a x2 4200 with bent pins and it had no seal. Pissed me off. But never had that issue again.

Maybe look for an unboxing video on Youtube for your card and verify its packed up the same. If not I would exchange as its used.

It doesn't matter if it works. If they sold you a used card you are getting screwed.

There's no telling what happened to it before you got it. The lack of the antistatic bag is bad enough.

I'm surprised Newegg would do that.

Also , we all know (or should) Newegg, any retailer, has all the stickers, shrink wrap equipment, seals to make a opened mint box , contents at least appear NEW. If they did not do that on a obvious return, I also would call and very upset lay down your peace to them.
See what they offer. Might be a big credit , or just a free rma.

Weird thing... I actually ordered a GTX460 for a friend some time ago, the ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCu TOP and the box seemed opened, the card was not in an antistatic bag (there was no bag at all) and the drivers DVD paper envelope had visible usage marks (like someone wiped it on the floor or something). We sent it back to the shop and got a full refund (they were surprised though - said the card should have been new, came directly from a distributor). Didn't even try to power it up.

That's in Denmark... I found it funny that we got pretty much the same thing though 😛

I installed it and it's working fine... I'm too lazy to try to return it over this, and in that video it was the same way. Was wondering where the hell sound was coming from when I first installed it. Then it dawned on me dvi-> hdmi must transmit sound now lol. Now, I need to figure out how to shut that off my other speakers don't show up anymore >.<

I purchased an Asus 6850 from newegg and it came the same way, no seal on the box or antistatic bag. I think its normal.

If you paid for a new factory sealed product that's what you should get. Doesn't sound like that's what you got.

This.

My MSI GTX460 Cyclone came in a shrink-wrapped retail box, the box was taped, the card was inside anti-static bag, the bag was taped.

What you got is exactly what I'd expect you to receive if you had told us you bought an "open box".

There is a reason "open box" items sell for a discount to their retail brethren. I would not pay the retail premium for an open box experience.

If the card ever dies, for any reason, you'll forever be wondering if that would not have happened had you just returned it and asked for a legitimate retail product. Buyers remorse sucks.

edit: nevermind the above, just watched the youtube link, looks like that is how ASUS packs it for retail, no conspiracy required! 😀

Strange. Makes it easier for etailers to screw customer's I guess.

-"Hey, the box wasn't sealed!"
-"That's normal."
-"Okie dokie then!"

I've had amazon do this to me once on a gtx 470 I purchased. Card had some wear marks on it, anti static bag wasn't sealed, driver cd package was crumpled looking. Installed the card and it worked fine. I'm sure it was a rma or refurb but I paid for a new one. Even with the card working as it should I returned it and haven't bought anything since from amazon.

i've been losing mad trust in newegg lately. i got an HTC EVO 4G from there, now sprint fraud department keeps contacting me asking where i got the phone from because it was reported stolen. several different people asking me for proof of purchase, asking me the same questions.

i also got a video card from there that was "open box", which i know is not going to be brand new packaging, but!... there was only just a card in there, nothing to hold it in place, no anti static wrap, nothing. completely loose and banging around.

I had it happen a few months back with a Sapphire HD 5850 from Amazon. Seals on the box were broken and the card had wear marks on the shroud. I installed it and it ran choppier in both WoW and Fallout 3 than my old 8800 GTX that I was trying to replace. I was pissed, but Amazon was very good about it - paid for shipping back and gave a full refund. The customer service guy asked me a bunch of questions about what the box and card looked like and said they would investigate at the distribution center why an obvious returned card was sold as new.
