Video card needed for HTPC/gaming PC

I'm way out of the loop, the most modern video card that I have is an aging 4850...

Here's the case I'm planning on using.

Other components will be 4GB DDR2, Athlon X2 4450e, and an MSI MicroATX MB.

Not planning on changing out any of the components, because I already have them laying around. I'm buying the case and re-purposing the system to be used for iRacing and other racing simulator titles, and maybe for some media/web browsing.

I'd like to keep the video card budget under $100 if possible, and quiet is great as this will be in my living room.

No brand preference, just whatever works best. HDMI out is required.

Suggestions?

350w? I don't think it would be wise to go above an hd6850 then.

EDIT: But, with the limited processor power you have, you probably won't notice much of a difference between a 6770 and a 6850. So if you can save a decent amount of money with getting a 6770 instead of a 6850, then that is my recommendation.

slow cpu and entry level psu that probably has many years of uses on it means no real point in going beyond 5750/6750 or 5770/6770 level of card. do not expect to play every game smoothly though as that cpu is borderline and in some even below minimum requirements.

Well since you said HTPC, I would get what I use, a passive cooled HD5850 assuming it will fit in your case (I have an Antec Fusion Remote Max, which is a very nice and spacious case). It handles just about everything I have thrown at it, including "Total War: Shogun 2" without problems.

There's not much difference between a 4850 and a 57xx either, except dx11, which you might not be able to fully take advantage of unless you're gaming on a small monitor.

Yeah, but he's got an athlon 64 x2. I's probably going to drag a card like that down, which defeats the purpose of buying it in the first place
