Video Card making Snowflakes....

Ok, lets see. Every time i try to install windows XP from a disc; it makes a freezing snowflake effect on my computer. The same effect when i zone in Everquest 2 and Guild Wars. Its weird; and ive figured its my video card by switching out the montior and ram. i have no other complaints about the video card though. it only happens in games. perhaps my settings are too high? dunno. anyone else got this problem or know how to help? i already put in a RMA, but it might not be needed if this can be remedied.

now as of 11:02pm; i have had 4 blue screen of deaths in windows XP. my friend that helped me build it confirmed it that we really think this might be a RAM issue...anyone got anything to say?

I have seen that type of thing with a bad stick of RAM, or it could be a bad RAM slot. Can you try with only 1 stick of RAM or if you only have one stick, move it to another slot?

upon taking out both 2x512mb sticks out and replacing them with a vantec 512mb stick i had from my old computer; it worked completly fine in windows and in operations of everquest2 for only a short while before it snowflaked and locked up. We then switched out the video card with my old leadtek 5600 128mb, and replaced the vantec stick with old 2x512mb sticks of corsair.

after that, things have been running smoothly. We have windows xp 64bit running on it now, with the 128mb OLD video card and the 2x512mb sticks of corsair CURRENT memory.

So now, anyone else think its the video card?

heres yet another gomerr labs...

upon installing my old leadtek video card with the 2x512mb sticks of ram, after i installed windows xp (2nd time it worked); it now automatically shuts my monitor to energy save mode (black screen, differernt color power icon). and then i can't move my mouse or see anything....so, dunno what to do about that issue either

but ive already requested a RMA on the video card; might as well on the ram. but i really dont wanna totally RMA my entire order....just the 3 main components i guess /shrug
