My friend's computer took a crap the other night. He came back and the monitors were blank and he couldnt get them back. So he rebooted the machine and all his ATI 9000 card spits to the screen is a checkerboard. Tried the card in another machine and same result. Ok the card is obviously shot.
So he goes out and buy a 9600 and puts it in. The mb spits out a series of beeps that indicates it cant find a video card or the video card memory is bad. Ok what is the chance a 2nd ATI card is shot? Well it looks like it is slim as the card works just fine in another machine.
So I am thinking maybe the MB is shot? I stick a 5900 into the bad machine and it boots up just fine. I even tried the card without the molex connector plugged in.
Do you guys have any possible solutions to this issue? It seems weird both ATI cards dont work but the Nvidia card does.
