Video card issue.

I recently had a fan fail on a Radeon 9800 Pro, so I ordered the VGA Silencer and installed it today. After installing it, I booted the machine and everything looked perfect. So, I installed the drivers and rebooted. Now, I get a bunch of pinkish purple colour bands all over the screen. The card is cool to the touch, so heat is not an issue now. I do, however, wonder if it might have been damaged before with the heat problem? I noticed the heat problem and immediately shut the system down and took the card out, so I am not sure if it had time to do any damage or not. Any thoughts about this?

Did you try installing the new catalyst drivers off ATI? I had a dead 9800 Pro (brand new) that exhibited the same problems you have. I had to send it back to ATI for warranty work. No problems since getting it back almost a month ago. Good luck.

If the card is cool to the touch, that's probably a bad thing because something isn't dissipating the heat! Make absolute sure that the heatsink is flush with the GPU core.

I would try to send the card back, but I voided the warranty by installing a new heatsink and fan right? If not, I will definitely try to return it. The heatsink is flush with the core. I made sure of that when I mounted the fan. By cool to the touch, I meant that it was warm but not hot enough to burn. Thank you for the replies! Are there any other suggestions?

When I bought a 9800 non pro, it had the exact same problem, brand new. I rma it to ATi, and I got a replacement within 5 days, a 9800 Pro at that.
