Video Card issue 6600gt

So I just got my new 6600gt from fedex today. Took out the old geforce 1 and put in the new one and I'm having some graphics issues. Nearly all of my icons are discolored, disfigured and smeared. I have vertical lines streaking my start menu, icon tray, and most of the icons.

When I put the card in, I had the latest drivers from nvidia's site already downloaded for the old card. I tried installing the drivers from the CD, but they were older than the ones I already had. I've tried rolling back the drivers to no avail. I've tried changing the resolution, color quality, and refresh rate. I'm out of ideas. Any help?

Here's what I'm running...

Windows XP Pro, SP 2
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
1GB Kigmax RAM
80GB WD HD
LeadTek 6600GT AGP

Try these options:

1)Remove all of the Nvidia drivers from your machine. Try reinstalling the drivers again. I had the same issue swapping out 4200 for 4600.

2)What is your powersupply, got Juice?

3)test the video card in buddy's machine, video card could be foobar. it does happen out of the box.

Got a 400w PSU.

How do I go about compeltely removing the nvidia drivers? There's no option in the "add/remove programs" menu.

Weird, you sure?

Did you install Nvidia package or just direct hard to driver's files?

If not try installing the package, also 400 watts. I thought these new fancy video cards are power hungry. What brand is the power supply?

Actually, your first option above juts fixed the problem. I redownloaded the latest nvidia drivers from the link in the "video card drivers" thread. After I did that, the nvidia drivers appeared in the "add/remove programs" menu. I uninstalled them, restarted, reinstalled them and now all seems to be well with the world. Thanks for the quick reply!

A humble noob serving the people of Anandtech. 🙂

Sounds like you might hav eto RMA it. I had the same problem with my 9800 Pro. Check your BIOS, if you get weird artifacts in their your card is definitely defective.
