I have been wondering wtf that is or why it makes that noise. My friend just told me his 8800GT does it too, and its worse in SLI. I get it everytime during the intro movies or loading the game, but just today I was curious enough to ask if anyone else gets it.

Its probably the various VRM coils or caps on your card or PSU. Its very common when you have insanely high FPS on menus or loading screens.

Just as chizow said, when you have very high FPS, you'll hear that whining sound. While Crysis loads, it is running at "999 fps."

Ah my guess was right then :D
Sounded like the caps on my cards were going to go up in flames :p

Only other time I get that sound is when my PC is running on the UPS battery power. PSU power regulation having fun with the crappy wave from the Belkin UPS.

You need a new distributor cap, plugs and wires. :D

Seriously though, as Chizow said above.

The squealing is really horrid at times, I remember when playing Clear Sky it just turned on whenever I paused the game.

I have the same thing. I originally thought it was the card itself, but it's actually the PSU. Happens with a PCP&C 750W and my Corsair 1000W. Nothing to worry about really.
