Like nick suggested, a 9800Pro is ideal, but its a bit above your budget.

They go for about $180-200 now, but they offer much superior performance to anything else in that range. For $150, a 9600XT might be ideal, but that doesn't offer anything near the performance of the 9800Pro.

A 9700Pro might be found for your pricerange, its not that much slower than the 9800, but they stopped making them a while back, so it might be hard to come across one.

For a cheaper alternative to the 9800 Pro, Powercolor appears to be selling REAL Radeon 9800s again! Not the 128-bit Sapphire POS card, but the true 256 bit 9800 non-pro.

Best part? $160 and it should be able to overclock to Pro core speeds, maybe not memory speeds. That should still be a nice big step above the 9600XTs without having to go all the way to the Pro.
