Video card: Good3D and Killer2D where?

I am decently happy with my old Gforce2 MX400 64mb card for gameplay. My system is a 1.1ghz/512mb/19" monitor and PNY Gforce2 64mb. What I am NOT happy with is the 2d side of it. Text is fuzzy and far from beeing sharp and clear. I know that the monitor has to do with it as well but this is a monitor that 'atleast' produce sharper text (Gateway19" EV910). With that said, last night I bought a PNY Gfroce2 titanium 64mb to see if the text was any better, a little bit but not all that great either. 3D stuff was smoking right along though 😉

So my questions, are the Gforce2 lines not known for great 2d performance?

If someone can answer this, I'll ship them some beer 🙂: What card will give decent (equavilant to the Gforce2) 3d gaming and give KILLER sharp 2d performance?
I can't take this fuzzyness anymore!!!!

PS: I don't recall even my original GforceDDR 32meg'r producing this shi*ty 2d image (text and icon's)!
Thank you for the help.
:disgust:😀

Go get a Radeon DDR, decent 3D performance, and great 2D quality and performance.

EDIT: I 2nd what they said, Matrox G400 is the king of 2D, but forget it's 3D performance so, you make the call.

Get an old Matrox G400 max if you can find one...I have one in my wife's computer because she only uses it for Word and Excel and the text is razor sharp..

nVidia has long been well known for their very sub-par 2D visual quality, that said it really depends a lot on the individual manufacturer. There are a small few manufacturers that manage decent 2D in their GeForce cards.
VisionTek and Elsa are usually pretty good, LeadTek is occasionally decent, and Gainward is often pretty good as well.

That said, if you need gaming AND excellent 2D then ATi is pretty much the safest bet as ATi'sRadeon series always has good 2D, and very competitive gaming performance as well.

The Radeon 7500 offers GF2 Ti/Pro level performance, and the Radeon 8500 offers performance slightly below that of the GF3 Ti500.... both are excellent purchases.

if you don't need gaming of course, then Matrox is hands down the best. they have long been acclaimed for their fantastic 2D image quality an deservedly so.

ATI is the best for 2d Quality, I have a Radeon DDR, I get a solid frame rate in games like Quake III, Half-Life, etc... and 2D is nothing less then excellent

Well, damn, thats exactly what I wanted to hear!! Great advice Rand, Athlon4All and arce 🙂

I know with my system, a faster FSB mobo, faster vid card will get killer quality/frames but I'm happy with the 3D performance of the MX400 so if the Radeon 7500 DDR will do just about the same as the MX400 GF2, and the 2d Quality is as good as it sounds (not better then G400 of course) then I'm returning the PNY GF2Ti 64mb and selling my PNY GF2 MX400 64mb......

This fuzzy text is driving me nuts!!! My own gut feeling is that PNY's line does killer 3d app(like most Gf2 ti and up) but terrible 2d performance.

Looking for a 64mb 7500.....
Thanks a bunch guys!
I've finally got light at the end of the tunnel 🙂
