video card gone?

Hey everyone, I appreciate all the help I can get in advance.

I built this computer back in the summer of '02 and it has worked great until today. I haven't kept up with computer tech since then, so pretty much I'm going to be brand new with any hardware.

I think the video card died, as there is no information getting to the monitor. I cleaned the computer, disconnected the video card, reconnected it, and still nothing. Is there anything else that could be the problem?

This is an old geforce something in an AGP slot. Is it possible to buy a new video card cheap and just plug it in, or do I have to pony up and get a new computer? I pretty much only use it for internet, music storage, and MS Office stuff.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike

ok, so the warranty on a 6 year old product... i'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say that its long gone.

plus, is it even worth it to buy a new video card (as in will the new card even work in my old system), or do i just build a cheap new system?

As long as the processor and ram and stuff is running well enough to keep you happy, just buy the cheapest AGP video card on newegg and shove it in

lol for some reason that made me chuckle

I'd garner more on the mobo dying. You might as well get a new machine, like those $400 Dells with 22" monitors. Hard to beat that price even if you've kept up all these years.
