Hi there
I am wondering what would be compareable Video Card to nVidia 8800GTS 640 to todays Generations ?
Would ATi 5850 would be same class what 8800 GTS 640 MB way back then ?
I know very well 5XXX and nVidia 4xx class series are faster then 8800 GTS Video Card. I just want to when 8800 GTS came out; It was fairly fastest Video card unless you would start O.C.
Thanks
Mir :)

I hope you're not just using comparisons like that to base a purchase off of... >.>

Not for the dollor amount; cause I paid half grand for my Video Card. D:
However I was statisfied with my purchase, and I did very well for my needs.

This has been well documented on the AT's article on the GTX 470 / 480 release.

You get slightly better performance (10 - 15 %) from GTX 470 / 480 than HD 5850 / 5870 and perhaps a more future proof solution since it performs better with DX11 Tessealation.

However, all of this comes at a huge tradeoff in power consumption and cost which lead most people to recommend the ATI HD 58XX series for current generation games.

Me, I'm planning on skipping the current cards and waiting to see what comes out this Christmas.

It's still a very poor criterion to buy off of. Don't worry abotu where a certain cards place in the market is compared to previous generations... it makes no difference.

8800 GTS 640mb was using G92 while others 8800s were using G80. G80 = 90nm core, G92 = 65nm core, which makes 8800GTS 640mb more energy efficient and more shader cores. GTX 285 was the same grade as 8800 GTS 640, but there isn't that grade in Fermi yet.

Edit: the above is wrong as corrected by Illyan.
Nvidia ships revised GeForce 8800 GTS cards

5870 is similar to 8800GTS 640mb at the time of release, but it is now 7 months old.
