Hello all. I am considering getting Windows Vista Home Premium. The Vista site says 128MB of video RAM minimum. I would like to know if there are anyways of getting around this? My video card has 64MB of RAM. I built this PC several years ago and it runs fine. The only game I play is Call of Duty, and it runs without issues, so upgrading the video card seems unnecessary. If it helps, here are my specs.

Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra Motherboard with an AGP 2x/4x/Pro Slot
Pentium 4 1.8a CPU
1 GB PC 2100 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 64MB

If I absolutely have to upgrade the video card to run Vista Home Premium, what is the cheapest reliable video card that will run the latest Call of Duty game without issues?

Thanks.

Unless you have some reason you really need Vista, if you're not ready to spend the money to beef up your computer to meet Vista requirements, stick with XP.

My basic rule is not to adopt any new Micro$oft OS until it's been out for at least two years. A year from now, 256 MB vid cards, lots of RAM and more powerful CPU's will probably all cost less. :)

Harvey, there were several reasons why I am considering the upgrade, but I understand where you are coming from. I'll give it more thought. Thanks all.

I agree with Harvey. But, if you have strong reasons you want to upgrade your OS to Vista and you want to keep the cost of a video card as low as possible, look for rebate deals such as this $20 rebate offer which expires at midnight 12/31/07: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...p?Item=N82E16814130197 And, this is a card that would run Vista OK, as confirmed by some of the user reviews on newegg.com.

I believe video is clearly the weakest point in your system for running Vista. You could go to Microsoft and download their Upgrade Adviser for Vista. It will tell you where you stand. I think it would confirm that you're OK - not great, but OK - except for video.
