Video Card for Vista

I am getting a new laptop and it comes with Windows Vista. I have heard that Vista is a big graphics hog. My laptop comes with a 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M G video card. Will that be sufficient or should I spend the extra $100 to get the 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT. I hardly ever play any games on my computer. So the sole purpose of getting the higher video card will be for Vista. Is it needed?

Other system specs:

Processor: T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache
MEMORY 2x1GB Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz

Thanks.

Vista isn't a "graphic hog" really. It can work the same way XP does. Aero, however, uses your 3D card. It does so to off load the process from your CPU and put it on the GPU where it really does belong. That said, you don't need a serious graphics card for Aero to work well. My laptop is using an ATI mobile 300xl and it works great. Either of those graphic chips will work well. Since gaming isn't an issue, you will never see a problem with using the 128mb video

Its my understanding that Vista only requires a DX9 compatible card, so either the 8400M or the 8600M would work very well.

I'd still spend the extra 100 bucks to get the faster video chip though, especially if you plan on keeping the laptop for a while its good to have a little extra head room.
