Hi,i have a MOBO with and AMR slot.I cannot locate any hardware for this slot.Does anyone know if any hardware exists for this slot? i would like to put a good sound card here. What about the optional asrockmr card.I cant locate that either.Would a card like that be better than ac97 audio? what about the modem.would that modem be about as good as my usrobotics v.92 perf.pro 56k? thanks!

AMR stands for Audio Modem Riser ;)

There are AMR modems but hard to find. i guess there were also sound and network cards also made . . .

i'd forget the slot as most everyone else has [i think]

Audio or Modem only. Typically as an OEM option for barebone makers only, very rarely available as a retail item.

I have one of these on an ancient socket 370 ECS board, and haven't seen any of them since. One PCChips (read: PCBuffaloChips, which is the very polite way of describing the quality of their boards) board that I had many years ago came with a modem in the box for this slot.

Ah, another PC-Chips bullsh*tter. Great. Now isn't it funny how you're not saying the same thing about ECS, even though it's the same stuff from the same company?

Label worshippers, iz all.

Work for PC Chips, eh? I never said that I liked my ECS board, or that I'd buy another. It was given to me, but the performance was never very good, though it did Linux router duties for a bit without too many issues. The PC Chips boards kept dying before I had them long enough to form any opinion otherwise. They were made in a different year, with a different chipset, for a different processor. That doesn't change the fact that PC Chips could not make a good board at the time, and I will not even consider purchasing another (or a board by anyone related to them), or using one for any critical task, despite how certain people think that they need to be a shill for that particular "budget" MB company.

My experience: Well over 100 ECS and PC-Chips boards, death ratio no worse (I'd rather say better) than with the other big names I used to use (ASUS, Epox).

Buying the wrong item for the purpose is hardly the item maker's fault, is it?

It's not like I was trying to cram a Socket 754 CPU into a Socket 478 motherboard. Try another insult...

Network won't go in an AMR slot. BUT there was another slot called CNR - Communication Network Riser. That one could take network.

Not possible. The next standard after AMR was CNR, Communications Network Riser. THAT did allow modem and/or network cards.

The linked machine is just lacking a comma. The full quote reads: "Modem PC Tel 56K V92 AMR Network Card Realtek 10/100". It has an AMR modem and a Network card ;)

thanks for clearing that up . . . i know they were pretty similar
And they DO get lumped together . . . this is an interesting read:
AMR, CNR and ACR slots
AMR (Audio Modem Riser), CNR (Communications and Network Riser) and ACR (Advanced Communications Riser) are slots that you can find on your motherboard that have the same goal: to install HSP (Host Signal Processing) devices to your PC. These devices can be modems, sound cards and network cards.

HSP devices lack self-control, it is the computer CPU that controls the device. As a result, the device is fairly cheap, because it doesn't have any fancy circuitry. But, on the other hand, the PC loses a little bit of its performance, since the processor will waste a little bit of its time controlling the device. This kind of device is also commonly refered as "software-controlled" (e.g. "soft modems").

Usually AMR, CNR and ACR devices are offered by the motherboard manufacturer as an option to the motherboard. For example, your motherboard can have a AMR modem as an option. You can also buy such devices on the market. An AMR modem costs USD 15 or less, but they are not so easy to find.

You will only find one of these slots at a time, i.e. if a motherboard has AMR slot, you won't find a CNR nor an ACR slot on it.
