7900 GT FTW! But seriously, what graphics settings do you want to run at, all high (then 7900 SLI), medium, 7900 or 7800 just fine.

You have some awesome computers there!

I was wondering what you use your Linux rig for?

Hey, we both have the same monitors!!!

My linux rig is used for video files, and I am messing around with networking in a windows environment. Going to try to see some game playing on it too. I used linux in college for programming, so I am trying to recreate that experience.

I gave my brother the 3rd rig, AMD 3000, 2GB, 6800 Ultra....so when he gets tired of it, three comps to play with.

Sad thing is, I still don't feel like I am using any of this equipment to their full potential.

That was nice of you to hook your brother up with a pc!

Sweet monitor huh?

How do you like your X2 CPU? If I built a new pc with an 1900XTX (single) and a X2 4400+ would I see a significant increase in performance not only in Oblivion but other apps too? I'm thinking yes but may as well ask since you would know.

Looking at your existing rig, the video card would be the biggest improvement. The dual core will be a significnt increase in multitasking, not in the games, since your single coure processor is the same general speed. Now of course you would need 2x1GB kit, and that would help alot too. Your sound card is definitely suffiicent.

I definitely love the monitor, I went from a 19", which my brother also got, hehe. The blacks are great, and colors are vibrant. I only use the dvi for my dual monitor setup in WIndows, and vga on the second monitor for linux.

It depends on what video settings you use.

I have a 7800GT. It ran OK at 1280x1024. Then I started messing around. It seems like grass is a big hog on the GPU. I cut it out completely and it runs so much faster its kinda scary.
Also, the grass wasnt too impressive for me and it also hides junk on the ground.
I had to kill a guy outside and when his nice sword dropped I was worried I couldnt find it.

5150joker posted some videos of it running smoothly at 1600x1050 on a single x1900XTX.

Thread here.

So it's possible without SLI'ing two 7900GTs.

My 7800GT handles 1680x1050 fine at whatever settings it auto-detected.. but then I'm not too picky about running everything on high.

7800GTX here and running very nicely on Bloom + 2x FSAA @ 1680x1050

Just auto detected (which set everything to max anyway) and changed some ini lines to remove the soup effect too.
