I no longer do any gaming. My rig is mostly for surfing and video encoding. I'm planning on Vista.

What's a good reasonably priced card that will fit my needs? And still be fast as heII. LOL.

Thanks.

I'm building a new rig (well, upgrading my current rig). e6400, P5b, Max Sata, don't know about memory yet, don't know about video yet.

are you going to overclock? That rig seems a bit overkill for a video editing and surfing pc...? You can get an intel 965g board for $110...

X1300 or 7300 minimum.

Why cripple yourself? Pick up a mid-range card like the X1600 or 7600GT now and you won't need to do the inevitable upgrade down the road.

Overkill. Isn't that what it's all about? LOL.

I'm probably going to do a lazy man's overclock and just change bios settings.

What speed memory would you recommend for that type of overclocking?

Both 7 and X1 series give you h.264 acceleration. Pure Video and AVIVO are pretty much equal.
I would suggest something along the lines of 7300GT/GS or X1300pro. If you are looking for abit of performance, 7600GT or X1650pro.

Even though I won't be gaming I want my stuff to fly!! I'm sure there's a point where it doesn't matter which card I have but I'd like to get right under that point. :)

So the 7600gt or x1650 will give me my best performance?

I noticed that my 7300 go (= 7300LE) handles even dual screens with about 3000x1050 resolution

i would wait for few months till 8300 or X2300 comes out. DX10 support , HDCP support and also 1080p H.264/VLC support.

In that case, 7300GS, passively cooled one or X1300pro. I meant performance in terms of games, but really your just surfing the net, watching movies, hence go for the 7300/X1300.

You could even go with a integrated setup, the 6150 series from nVIDIA.

well are you a pro video encoder ;? ... if you just want to encode fast then i suggest getting a ATI Xseries and use AVIVO converter since its is basically the fastest encoder ;(

Video encoding can be benefited by obtaining Quad Core Processor since few Video encoding software are well multi threaded. Use this path if your going to do professionals software.
