Is there a single video card that can game at a resolution of 2560 by 1600 with up to 2xaa or would I need to use 2 cards for this? Thanks.

Well that would depend on the game. Generally speaking though, a single 8800GTX would probably be able to handle many recent games fairly well at 2560x1600.

R600...... how about we stick to cards that are out.....;)

8800GTX will do you fine, if you want to wait for the R600 you can but I dont think it's going to be that much better and if it is Nvidia might release there 8900GTX.

up to 2x AA one 8800 GTX will serve you fine.

once you hit 4x AA, you need 2.

Keep in mind you can always run a centered lower resolution image as well on the Dell 3007WFP, which is what i do often.

Some games i can run full 2560x1600 with my X1900 XT; the others i run centered @ 1600x1200 or 2048x1536 usually.

Is there a way to get any game to run in a centered lower res? Old games like d2 run at 800 x 600 and look terrible on my widescreen monitors, but might look ok centered.

Option should be in your nVidia control panel; someone with an nV card should be able to tell you exactly where if you can't find it.

I wish someone would point this out as well. I run a 1440x900 display on my GeForce 4 MX420. While worksheets and all are just fine, i have to run older games like DFBHD still at 800x600 to insure smooth frame rates. But there isn't a window mode such as in games like Serious Sam. If I could find a method in the drivers to force window mode it would be WONDERFUL!

You can go into flat panel settings and set it to not scale so it'll run at 800*600 with black bars around the outside. I think you have to be using a DVI cable for it to work though, I have never been able to get into the flat panel settings using a VGA cable. They are greyed out until I connect my monitor with a DVI cable  My old GF4mx didn't have a DVI output so I don't know if yours will.

Why exactly do you think an R600 would be a better choice?

Why do I think it will be a better choice? It's ATi's last card(not AMD's), and after all the time they've taken to perfect it the card should be able to produce! But the 8800GTX is still a very good choice :)

It depends on the game but plenty of games should be playable at 2560x1600 with 4xAA on a 8800 GTX.

Could someone please briefly explain what dual-link DVI is? I looked it up at Wiki, but I still dont completely get it.

And what term would I use to find a vid card with this at Newegg?

Do those sources have any specs they can give us? Or how about a ballbark figure how much faster it'll be over a 8800 GTX?

DVI is the port used on the back of video cards as opposed to VGA or HDMI if you really want to get technical about this. Most modern good video cards use dual link DVI. It's really useful for large monitors because they are dual link DVI monitors. There are also adapters that come with dual DVI video cards to allow them to use VGA.

They say it will have a 512-bit memory controller, which would give the card a massive boost at such a high resolution.
