Hi all,

I just bought the Dell 3008WFP monitor... as you all probably know, u can get a deal from the Dell rep. about $1,655

Anyway, I need to buy a graphics card for it. They told me I need a graphics card which can support dual monitors.

I will be using this monitor for work. I.e. I won't be playing cutting end games, etc. I just need really sharp text and fast refresh times when switching back and forth between applications. On the other hand, the monitor was kind of expensive, so I should probably get a good graphics card for it so that it is not a complete waste.

Can you recommend one for me?

Thank you all!

Unless you're looking to use it with another monitor, you're looking for a card with "dual-link DVI," which looks the same as regular DVI, but can handle the massive resolutions of displays like your new 30". :)

Any recent card with dual-link DVI will do fine- here's one that probably a lot more powerful than you need, but will stay relevant for a long time. $100 after rebate.

I'm sure the 8600GT is good enough.
Is this monitor at home or work? If it's at home and you think there's a chance you'll slip into games sometimes, I'd go for 8800GT (either 256 or 512). The 3850 & 3870 also fit my suggestion.

But for work only... could probley get a 8500 or 8400. A desktop doesn't req. much horsepower....

Hello

Thank you all for your help.

One more question on this topic.
The computer I want to put this screen on is about 4-5 years old. Dell Precision 450.
Power supply = 360W.

I'm worried about the power supply working with these graphics cards.... I notice that you are supposed to plug both "both 4 pin molex power connections to your power supply". I don't have enough plugs left on my power supply. there is only one open plug left...

What should I do? Can i make things work with this computer? what will happen if I plug only one of the adapters into the power supply? This computer is MISSION CRITICAL.... i.e. i can't have it crashing...

VisionTek VTK X1300PCIEDMS Radeon X1300 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Low Profile Video Card - Retail

What do you all think? Will that work? Is it a huge waste? i.e. not good enough for the screen?

That card will work fine for your desktop, in fact most cards made in the last 3 years will be fine. Get whatever fits your budget.
