I am in the market for a video card and wanted to spend 100 or less. I did see the thread on the 8500le and it was recommended as the best in that price range. Would this still hold true today? What would you all recommend?

The 8500le (or 9100 under its new name) is certainly your best bet for a sub-$100 US card around here. I just picked one up for my son's system.

If you can find a GF4 for $100-$120 that would be a nice card to get. If you opt for the 8500-9100, then be careful of memory speeds. Crucial being one of the worst with Ram Speeds.

I agree, if you can get a GeF4 Ti4200 for $100-120, go for that instead! It's just that around here (Canada), even the 64MB Ti4200 still cost around $135US or so, whereas you can get a 128MB Sapphire Radeon 9100 for $85US. But that may have something to do with our proximity to ATI :).

Memory speeds are indeed an important issue for the 8500/9100 series. The retail ATIs are typically 230/230, and the Sapphire's are 250/230 (or 250/200 for the 128MB version). That's as low as I would want to go.
