Video Card fan is noisy as a Mother! HELP ME@!

I have an MSI Geforce 2 GTS card that has a really annoying stock HSF problem. It has a buzzing or whining sound all of a sudden which arose a couple of weeks ago after I have used the card for a good 8 months.

I'm sure it's the fan, because when i tap the video card, or stop the fan manually, the loud buzzing stops and the fan spins normally.

There doesn't seem to be anything obstructing the fan's mechanism, so maybe there is just some internal resistance? Should I grease the fan or something?

You can lube it w/ a light drop of sewing machine oil, but that would be just delaying the inevitable, time to replace it i'm afraid.

Lubing it will make the noise go away. I did that to my creative geforce 2 gts a few months back, and have not heard it since.

I think I'll see how long a lube will last...I'm not gonna be a happy camper if I have to shell out 15-20 bucks for a chipset cooler. Thanks guys...

I had the same problem with mine. So first I replaced it with a Crystal Orb. All that did was take 20 bucks out of my pocket and double the fan noise. So I stuck the stock heat sink fan back on and put a drop of bearing oil in the fan. Be careful with the fan because its very fragile.

Where can you buy a replacement fan ?

I'm assuming that the oil solved your noise issues? I'm not sure if you can find a replacement fan for my cooler, because it's a pretty unique assembly.
