Video Card failing?

Recently I came back to my computer after leaving a game idle for a while (Sims 2, don't hurt me). I was treated to a message similar to "The graphics card has been reset because it stopped responding". Ever since then I've been getting small black squares in any game I test.

I'm on a Abit 1S7 mobo with a 2.4c P4 at 3ghz and a gig of ram. The card is a 9800 pro. It seems to me like the card is failing but I don't want to go out and buy a new card if I don't have to. (I'll probably get a 7800 GS if it ends up that the card is indeed failing)

I've only been having the problems in games, not when watching video or doing anything on the desktop. I'll try playing a DVD later.
