video card doesn't render everything?

I have recently switched to a geforce 6800 from a geforce ti4600.

the first thing I noticed was that the polygons in the game doesn't get rendered. I'd see some parts of a model get rendered (like say a head or a mouth) but the rest of it doesn't.

It got a bit better after I changed my AGP Aperture size to 512, but it still doesn't render evrything on more graphics intensive games like half-life 2. Anybody have any idea what's wrong? I tried getting the most recent update for the graphics card already and doesn't fix a thing.

Specs:
Winfast 755FXk8AA-ERS
Corsair Valueram PC 3200 1 GB
Geforce 6800

Did you remove your old drivers before swapping the cards?
Any overclocks/mods?

I'm thinking you have a DOA video card. Maybe try a clean-up and re-install.

(did you buy that card new or used?)

this is the 2nd card that this is happening to so I'm not sure what's wrong here. Same card, same company before and did the exact same thing...

possible i got unlucky and got 2 DOA cards?

Achieve: 500 W
Winfast 755FXk8AA-ERS
Corsair Valueram PC 3200 1 GB
Geforce 6800
Sound Blaster audigy
some DVDRW
Samsung DVD rom
WD Cavier 160 GB
Hitachi 160 GB

edit: did a bit more testing and it seems the graphics get worse and wore, starting with the models turning purple and then eventually that happens. any ideas?

It definatley sounds like a faulty card. I know from personal experience that RMAing anything is a pain in the ass but it looks like you got to do it.:(

the card is made by evga.

it just sounds like i got really bad luck because I got 2 cards that did the exact same thing. :(

edit: is there a way to check if the video card is getting enough voltage?

Do you have a friends computer that you can put your card in? At least you'll eliminate other hardware if it does on theirs too.

i have the exact same e-geforce 6800 from evga you had. mine is perfectly fine, but gets to 77 degrees when playing intense games.

I'm going to pop in some old ram and see how that works out, maybe it doesn't like corasir valueram.

Also. i tried running a couple of other games and they all seem fine.... UT2k4, Final Fantasy 11 all render flawlessly.

ran 3dmark2003, rendered everything fine, and ran rthdribl perfectly fine too.

this is frustrating me to no end, no idea what's wrong with this.... :(

been a while, ran a lot of tests and still no good. Tried new drivers of all sorts, more cooling, etc.

Reinstalled-revalidated half life 2 files, reseated graphics card and tried new memory, all no good. Tried lowering game settings but I didn't buy a geforce 6800 so i can play the game at 640x480 with no AA on. I still haven't installed doom 3 but I'll try that later tomorrow and see what pops up...

I'd be more inclined to do that only if the motherboard return policies weren't so strict. once my friend fixes his computer I'll try it out on his computer.

tested the card on another machine and works perfectly.

Bad Mobo, or bad directx installation? hmmmm :(

tried this again the other day with Farcry and Doom 3.

Farcry gets problems early on into the game while doom ran fine for the whole entire time as far as I could see.

I'm starting to wonder if its a bad Directx 9.0 installation. I ran DxDiag and ran some tests and the cube is all flickering and spazzes out greatly.
