Video card dilemma

I was originally looking at the radeon 9500 pro but, upon looking at the review one more time, linux doesn't support it (unless i'm wrong, which is a posibility). So now i'm looking at the GeForce 4 4600 but it doesn't have the whole DX9 deal that the radeon card has, but it supports linux, and it costs 40 bucks more, or atleast for the one i'm looking at on newegg.com. I currently have a GeForce 2 GTS and i will be installing linux on my pc after christmas. Here's a newb question: Could i buy the radeon and use it for windows, and keep the geforce 2 in as well for linux to use? heh

So, can I have two graphics cards and have windows and linux use two different cards or will I have to go with the 4600? Please let me know if you have any info, i need to order these parts Soon.

To stand any chance you'd need one card to be AGP and the other to be PCI (unless you plan on swapping them each time you switch OS). As the GTS is surely AGP that would mean nothing better than a std Rad9000 in PCI which would be pretty pointless. So you could sell your GTS and buy a GF4MX PCI and a Rad9500PRO AGP, then you could use the BIOS (Boot First: AGP/PCI) to switch between the cards as needed. I'd advise simply getting a 4200 now and waiting for Rad9500PRO prices to fall and Linux drivers to appear. 4600 isn't a huge amount faster esp the way most 4200 cards o/c, esp so the 128MB 4200-8X or the 4200's using the longer 4400/4600 designs (eg Suma Special Edition and Albatron P Turbo). DX9 is pretty useless and will be for about 12 months, so Rad9500PRO type cards offer pure 3D speed and the ability to max out bothg AA & AF.
