Video card dilema - help please..

I have an Atlon XP 1800+, 512mb of RAM and a Geforce 2MX running Windows XP. I guess one of my system's biggest bottleneck would probably be my videocard.

I was thinking of a good replacement videocard out of the following choices (I'm in a really tight budget right now):

- Gainward Geforce 4 Ti4400 128mb ($114 - there's a special sale for this one in my country, I guess they're trying to get rid of the old stocks)

- Inno3D Geforce FX 5600 128mb non Ultra ($125)

- HIS Excalibur Radeon 9600 128mb non-Pro ($128)

I'd prefer the card that would allow me to run some of the newer games like Halo at 800x600 at meduim quality with smooth framerates and also something I won't be upgrading until 2 years or so.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance guys!! 🙂

I was wondering if there would be an issue with some of the newer games such as Doom 3, Half-Life 2, etc, since the Ti4400 is DX8 compatible and not Dx9 compatible?

If the 9600 was a pro I would go with that, but since it isn't, go with the Ti4400 cause it's still a powerful frame pushing card.
Being DX8 is not a big problem considering that if you have a DX9 card it doesn't matter much if the game looks great but runs like crap.

Thanks guys!!

After reading through your suggestions and doing some research off the 'Net, I guess a Ti4400 (especially one that's overclcocked) can still ride with the best up there. I've decided to stay one generation behind and ordered the Gainward Ultra 700 from my local retailer. Hopefully, they've still got 'em in stock.

Thanks again guys!! 🙂
