Video card dies a few seconds after going into windows? Is it dead or something else?

I have a Chaintech GT21 (GF4 Ti4200) and today my whole system locked up, rebooted, went for a few minutes locked up again. Now it goes to the point of initalizing xp and it locks up the computer. I tried win-me and it logs in and then crashes about 15 seconds later.
Put my old radeon 7000 in here and it's stopped locking up.
Sound like I need to RMA my vid card or is it something else?
Thanks if you can help.

Sounds like a driver issue to me. Boot up in safe mode and use the driver remove tool from guru3d.com to totally remove the drivers. Then reinstall the latest Detonators and see how ya go!

Probably would have helped if I posted that I did that. If I run without drivers it runs fine. With drivers though is crash city. I've got another system to try the vid card on. I guess I'll try that.
Moo.

if you're able to run it fine without the drivers in safe mode, then it probably most likely is a driver problem. Do you have the latest drivers? If the latest drivers are bad for you, try downloading a previous one and see if that works.

Thanks, will have to try that. It's on my other system with is a celeron and it seems to be running fine.
Could it have anything to do with the p4b533 board I'm using?

 Not really, 533 still uses the standard PCI and AGP speeds. It sounds to me like an o/c'ing problem, did you o/c it? If so you can hold down a CTRL key (unsure which) while WinXP loads and this uses the cards default clocks, I take it you didn't leave the card too near its o/c'ing limit?

HTH!
