Video Card - details inside.

I'm looking for a video card to go with my new Athlon XP 1700+. I upgraded recently to an ATi Radeon VE, but I fried it and I had to downgrade to my old Rage 128... Try playing RtCW on that at anything more than grayscale... 😉

I am looking for an 'good' performer. I dont want an avarage card, say a GF2 MX. They are great cards, but its my opinion that if I am upgrading a video card, I will have to spend x amount of money anyway, so why not spend slightly more to get a better card?

Ideas:
ATi Radeon 7500 DDR which sells for £125 here in the UK. That price is for the retail version of the card. OEM unavailable...
What are the GF2 Ti cards like for performance? I have no data... 🙁

Are there other cards that would rival these cards in terms of price and performance?

I want to hear ALL the suggestions 🙂

Note: I am looking to spend UNDER £200 (the GF3 Ti200's lie just under this i think) and any price more than about £150 will have to be justified... 🙂 (give me some good excuses)

Edit: bought a 7500

Go for the Ti200 if you play RtCW a lot.

I've got the Radeon DDR (R200 core) and RtCW is very jumpy in spots with my system running the game at 1024x768x32.

Since the 7500 is just a step above that I don't thing you'll get that much better performance.

Thus, go with the Ti200 🙂

A GF2Ti performs much like a GeForce 2 Pro.

Go for the GeForce 3 Ti 200 if you can afford it.

Hmm.. I hav used a friend's 7500 and its FAR faster than what I currently have :Q

I should have said, I dont play that many games. Kinda like I play them until I get bored (pretty quickly really).

Going for a GF3 Ti200 would mean waiting until the start of February (next paycheck) while going for a 7500 would mean now... 😉

Hi Andy. So what is a GF2 Pro like? Faster or slower than a 7500? 😀

Thanks both of you 🙂

Excellent - that is what I wanted to hear 😀

it doesnt matter if you are not completely correct - just that they are 'about the same' is good enough for me 🙂

Thanks.

Any other views?

Definately do for a gf3 ti200 cuz they are 150 and you can oc them to ti500 clocks. just make sure you get one with a quality hsf even on the ram, i recommend the pny or the gainward. i have the pny verto gf3 ti200 and i love it and it is truly an awesome card

I'm not into overclocking as it often involves extra costs (like better HSFs, ramsinks, replacing fried cards... :Q). However your point is valid. Since the 7500 is basically a Radeon running at high clock rates, the OCing potential is lower than the GF3Ti200 I'm sure, so that if I WAS to OC, I'd get better results.

I dunno, here the Ti200 cards are about 180 pounds. The 7500 is available for £125. Big difference to me...

Any recent reviews of the 7500 anywhere?

OK so here we are:

From Dabs.com (who offer free next day shipping)
Radeon 7500 - £125
Creative Gf3 Ti200 - £170

Bear in mind that the Gf3 mentioned is a retail model, but without any extra features like dual monitor support etc. The Radeon is a normal Retail model (ie: includes everything)

I am 75% leaning towards the Radeon, just need some input from people who have these cards... 🙂

Everyone who responded to this thread said you should get a GF3 Ti200 and you get the 7500 instead.

Why even ask for people's input if it doesn't matter to you?

Input does matter.

If I hadnt had anyone's input, I would have bought the 7500 straight away. Having people's input was important, yet crucially the link from eplebnista had some insight for me.

Hope you aren't offended 😱 🙂

To be honest in the end the money issue was also a major factor... at the start of the thread I did not know how much Ti200s normally retailed for (they were part of the equation as they seemed to be very popular), so can I be forgiven?

Edit: Also, not everyone recommended it right off the bat, Andy after all said

<< if you can afford it >>

The most important bit was (what the link had) that the 7500 had dual head and the cheap Ti200's didnt (it wasnt listed in the features)
