Video card confusion

I've been trying to keep up with the world of video cards so I'll be well prepared to make my buying decision sometime towards the end of May.

There is one thing that's been confusing me for some time, and I can't find a sufficient answer elsewhere, so...

When I'm looking at video cards( let's say for example, the 9800) I assume that it is manufactured by ATI, so I just started looking at ATI cards.

However, I often see other listings along with ATI cards, including Sapphire, Asus, and a few others, that are still 9800's.

Also, reading the forums, it would look like a Sapphire is a good value, but how can it be better than the one made by ATI?

Thanks for help from a very confused shopper!

There are quite a few companies that ATI sells their GPU's to. ASUS, PowerColor, Tyan, FIC to name a few. Sapphire however, actually make the cards for ATI. So when you buy a Sapphire 9800, you are most likely getting an exact copy of an ATI card.. Only difference between the BBATI and a Sapphire is the warranty. ATI offers a 3 year warranty and Sapphire only offers a 1 year warranty. Dont ask me why.

Sapphire makes most of the Built by ATI cards. Yes they do. The only reason to get the built by ati card is if you want a 3 yr warranty instead of 1 yr for sapphire.
