Video card comparison question

I'm looking into a new video card. Unfortunately I'm still on AGP and not a big budget. So just looking for input on the following

Assuming the same (or very close) price,
Should I consider a x800 w/ 256MB RAM (256bit mem interface)
or an x1600 w/ 512MB RAM (but only mem 128bit interface)

Depends on which model of either. My X850XT @ PE speeds is still faster than the X1600 series as well as the nVidia 7600 series, but lacks SM 3.0.

If you can swing a few extra bucks, get the X1950Pro.
 
Yeah, unfortunately the 1900/1950 are about double what I'll need to pay for the 800's/1600's.

I really dont have time to game much any more, I'm gonna check out supreme commander, and probly continue to nurse the CS/CS:S addiction that never seems to die.

Do we have a timeframe on the DX10 cards release?

 
I dont know if an X800 series is enough for Supreme Commander, that also depends on your CPU, but what i do know is that my X850XT has brought my 3 year old Celeron back to life in terms of gaming. I even managed to play and enjoy Oblivion at 1280x1024.

X850XT is a great card.
 
I have the PCIe version of the X850XT and it kicks a$$ but I personally just want more power, SM3/4, HDR, and maybe DX10 to round all that out.

X850XT = Great Value!!
 
For AGP the X850XT is a very good value ... I'd have to say that the extra cost for the X1650XT makes it not worth it.
 
None of the x1600 or x800 cards are powerful enough to put 512mb of memory to good use. 256mb is plenty for those cards. Performance goes as follows, starting with the fastest:

x800xt > x800pro > x800 > x1600xt > x1600pro.

The x800 featured in this review I found, along with the x800 gto, x700 pro and 6600 gt:-

Here is how they shape up:-

x800 gto > x800 > 6600 gt > x1600 pro > x700 pro

i have x850 pro i enjoy play half life 2 civ4 madden 07 farcry games. i can mod pro to xt/pe but not sure mod will work with stock heatfan.
