x1800xl vs x1900gt how much of a difference would there be in gameplay
x1800xl 164.00 open box at new egg
x1900gt 300.00
Seems like the x1800xl is a much better deal even though its oem

I think you would be remiss to go for the X1800XL when you can get the 256MB X1900GT. I've seen the X1900GT 256MB for as low as $245.

Boys, boys! Settle down! We don't know that the GTO is a better deal. We'll just wait for a review from one of the boys here or from some other tech site. Then we'll decide on what's good and bad.

what is there to decide?

It's pretty straight forward. 7900GTO + mem overclock = 7900GTX for $229!

There is no better deal on the market unless you can find me a 512mb X1900XT/X for that price.

This man (or woman :)) speaks the truth. 7900GTO is pretty much a 7900GTX with underclocked memory speed and thats about it. (Same cooler, same PCB, same core clock etc).

It would kill a X1900GT pretty bad.

One thing I forgot to mention ... that reference cooler, is LOUD. And not efficient enough in my opinion.

I had just the same thing with my X1800 XL, and eventually I just had to change it with a third party solution (in signature). I am a happy man since then.

Don't get the X1800XL - it's slower than a 7800GT!!! It's slow by today's standards.

Also, the X1900GT is a "crippled" X1900XT - it's missing 4 quads and 12 pixel shader pipelines, and that slows it down by a good clip (around 25% is about accurate). PLUS it has lower core and memory clockspeeds!

DEFINITELY!!! A 7900GTO is basically an underclocked 7900GTX - most importantly it's got the full 24 pixel shader pipelines.

OP -- either get a 7900GTO or look for a cheaper X1900XT 256MB or 512MB -- you should easily be able to find 256MB versions for under $300.

The X1800XL (discontinued because it couldn't compete) and X1900GT (soon to be discontinued for the X1950 Pro) are inferior cards, and at the price points you quoted, are not worth the money. Especially ~$300 for a X1900GT - yuck! I just sold my X1900XTX for that much!!!!!

I can say this, I just got rid of a X1800XL, and replaced it with a X1900GT. The difference is noticeable. Ive owned both, so I know. If I were to compare, its like going from a X800PRO to a X1800XL. 3Dmark 06 maximum overclock scored 3300. The GT stock scored 4100. Im sure I ( maybe if overclock far enough ) almost hit 5k. Especially if I oc my Cpu....

X1900GT FTW
