Hello, I'm a new member here and I have a few questions..

I just ordered a new computer, so it is a little late to ask which is the best, but I was wondering if what I chose is okay. Heres what I'll be getting.
AMD T-bird 1.33 Ghz
256 DDR Ram
Gigabyte GA-7DXR mobo
Hercules 4500 Prophet - I have heard good things about this w/ newer CPU's

Those are the parts I'm wondering about, are they good choices? Or will I regret it?

Thanks in advance

Those are all excellent choices except for the Prophet II 4500. People have been having major problems with it in almost every game.. (T2, CS, Serious Sam, just to name a few)

Hrm?.

T2 ? doesn?t just about everyone have major issues with this title? Go to any T2 forum and see the issues riddled for everyone.

CS ? only issue is the smoke, which causes slowdowns on everything AFAIK (although KYRO does suffer more)

Serious Sam ? what issues are these??? KYRO is an exceptional Serious Sam board!

I wouldn?t pay attention to naysayers sh33p, just try it for yourself. Do look out for driver updates though.

Fine choices though, IMO.

Great, Thanks for the info..

Here are the games I play: UT, CS, some Q3, and some EliteForce. So I don't think the problems with Tribes2 will bother me at all. At the present time, I dont have the cash for a Geforce3, I'm waiting till they come down in price with the release of the Kyro III. Depends on the price and performance, I might just get a KyroIII.. But thats not for a while. Just one more question, this is about cooling.. I'm looking at a Thermaltake Volcano 2 (Recommended by AMD) or a Thermaltake Orb, the one with 2 fans. Which one is better? I don't plan to overclock this right away...

I would say is one damn good rig you are getting. Other components are here long enough to weed out most of the problems, except the Hercules 4500 prophet. There is a lot of people here disprove this card, but I would say try it yourselves if you find a problem with it come back and ask, otherwise don't listen to those no prove claims.

Look out for any patches and drivers update, as ST is quick. If you come across a problem, and try Hercules with no help, go try ST instead they are much better in the support department.

Yeah those people who diss it have never had one!
and their a bunch of nvidiots!

I have a kyro2 4500 and my frame rate in Elite Forces hovers around 100fps in 1024 * 768 in 32 bit colour.

try the kyro, you may just like it.

There are more nvidiots or nvidian trolls around here..
much much more...
What you imply is that you prefer those trolls...

so you are one of those... I have serious doubts that you own a kyro 2 card ...

?Here are the games I play: UT, CS, some Q3, and some EliteForce.?

UT should run great on the KYRO ? possibly second to none but the Voodoo?s (GF3?s and Ultra?s may have the sheer grunt to outperform them though).

Q3 and Elite force should be fine, and performance benchmarks of Q3 on KYROII are visible in plenty of reviews so you know what performance you should be getting there. IMO the best performance / Quality settings for Q3 engines it to have texture compression on and trilinear filtering enabled ? looks great, and plays fast! :)

For CS make sure you download the latest drivers from either Hercules or PowerVR ? they have several fixes in there to improve performance. That said I?ve been playing a lot of DMC lately I the performance seems to be pretty good at 1024x768.

Hope you enjoy your rig. :)

Welcome to Anandtech sh33p, really, regardless of what anyone says, the proof is in the pudding. Don't start gripping about your hardware untill you actually get it and set it up. You already have it coming, so don't sweat it. These kind of threads just bring out the zealots trying to justify there own hardware purchases. Your rig should certainly be fine, looks like good stuff to me!

I would recommend the Volcano 2 over the Orb. Since you got a 1.33 T-bird, the Orb won't provide sufficient cooling.

ur parts are fine, don't let people discourage you from buying a Kyro II or from buying a GF 2 for that matter they are both great cards.

Those are all excellent choices except for the Prophet II 4500. People have been having major problems with it in almost every game.. (T2, CS, Serious Sam, just to name a few)

I do not personally own a Kyro II but plan on getting one for my next rig and have done a lot of research on it. It will run SS and CS perfectly with that CPU but there are know issues with T2 which is fine for me cuz i dont play T2 anyways.

latest drivers needed for CS fixes smoke issues

the only thing i recommend you change is your motherboard and HS+ FAN
go with the Epox 8K7A, undeniably the best AMD 760 MB out yet although it isnt jumperless. For the HS+FAN I would go with a thermoengine with Delta (not if noise is a concern) It can be bought with Arctic Silver II for 50 at a lot of places

also consider 512 MB of memory (its only 56 more from crucial)
but DEFINITELY reconsider the motherboard for an Epox 8k7a for 134 from newegg

The KyroII'll be a good card once more mature drivers are made. You've got a great system there, friend.
