I have C366@550 w/ 196megs of ram. My monitor is a ViewSonic E771. The video card I want to replace is a 32meg Savage 4 from Diamond. I need Win98 and linux 2D & 3D support. The linux 3D support is why I am getting a new card. I also want to play games (UT,QIII, etc.) at 1024X768x32 w/ max settings. I am looking at getting a VisionTek GTS 32 meg from Sunway Grapics, Inc. for $159, a Inno3d GTS 32meg from OCIE for $160, or a retail name brand MX ie Hercules MX. The retail Hercules MX seems to run about $145. I want the retail MX to get better ram for overclocking. I am think about getting the VisionTek. Does this sound like a good choice? I want this card to last awhile, but I don't want to spend much over $150. I may upgrade the CPU around the end of Spring or mid summer. Also my desktop is 1024x768x32 so 2D quality should not be a problem.

Currently upgrading my own system, bought a Visiontek Geforce 2 GTS to go with my new Duron/MSI combo. For $50-60 bucks more than the best MX prices, you get significantly better framerates. You can check the Anandtech board to back up my assertion. Another $100 for 64mb has much less payoff. I figure it's good enough to hold me until NV20 comes out, or whatever 3dfvidia chimera emerges from the mind-meld...

The GTS is definitely worth the extra cash if you can afford it.

I have a GTS myself and you would have a hard time getting me to part with it :)
