$339.00 - ASUS nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "V9999GT/TD/128" -RETAIL

You might point out that this particular card is not a 6800GT, 6800 GT cards have 256 MB GDDR3 memory, while this has 128 MB DDR memory. Its priced better than ASUS orginal gouge, but $344 shipped is still approaching regular 6800GT pricing (its $315 shipped at zzf for instance)

Interesting. Do you happen to know off the top of your head what the chip on this card actually is? I hope performance is identical to the 256 MB version because that's why I listed it there. I'm going to search some reviews on it. Edit: I can't find much info on it.

Is it not possible they simply slapped on half of the memory chips and changed a setting from 256MB to 128MB? Or, would that just not work?

Its NV40 like all the 6800 AGP cards. It may have similar performance to a 256MB GDDR3 GT in some cases, but theres no way it will ever hit 1GHz on that memory and the 128MB framebuffer will suffer at higher resolutions an AA/AF levels....its no GT and never will be, but a little better than a regular 6800standard.
