ah heck,

just bought a new PC to build and as soon as I open the motherboard manual it tells me that I shouldn't run a version of the ATI Rage Pro 128 (Power Color) on this board cause it runs at AGP2 and will burn the motherboard.

Thing is, they're both Gigabyte products. I know I bought an ATI Rage Pro 128 but I don't know if it's the 'Power Color' version that will caues the motherboard to burn, and I can't find whether it's AGP 2 or 4 anywhere on the box/manual!

The motherboard says the 'Power Color' board will fit an AGP4 slot but it doesn't run at AGP4, only at AGP2.

How can I find out what AGP speed my version is?

I don't see how a 2x AGP card is going to burn out a 4x AGP slot..

It just wont be able to run at 4x, correct?

The quote from inside the manual of the Gigabyte motherboard says:

"Example 2: ATI Rage 128 Pro (Power Color) is compatible with 2X/4X mode AGP slot, but it supports 2X (3.3V) only. If you install this card in GA-8IDML series (or any AGP4X only) motherbaord, it will burn the motherbaord"

Looks like I'll have to send it back. Unless someone here can tell me if my graphics card, seen here:

Works with this board.

DAMN!

HMMM...just read some more, it seems the wording on the Gigabyte site is different to the wording on the inside of the maual:

Site says:

Example 2: Some ATi Rage 128 Pro graphics cards made by Power Color.

So, maybe I'm ok cause my card is made by Gigabyte themselves (that's why I chose it, to go with the gigabyte board) and not Power Color.

Still unsure though and don't want to burn my motherboard.

<< What motherboard is this? >>

It's a GA-8IDML gigabyte series board.

It would seem like I'm in the clear though, I found an answer, bet you'll never guess where!
