Hi all,

I'm wanting to transfer analog video (Hi-8 and VHS) to my computer at a high enough resolution to play on a DVD player in fullscreen. I'm not sure what capture card can effectively do this as well as any software (encoders?) that I might need.

I'm on a budget of $150 for this project. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

I'd suggest either the Leadtek or Asus TV tuner cards. I've used both for similar projects, and have gotten good results. You're going to want to capture at at least 640x480 resolution using a good codec (Huffy codec works well for this), or if you have a ton of diskspace, just leaving it uncompressed.

If you get the Leadtek card, use Virtualdub to do the capturing. If you get the Asus card, I don't believe Virtualdub works with it yet, but I found iuVCR to work just fine with that card.

Cool, thanks dude. That Leadtek is pretty cheap at newegg I think. Now, another follow-up question...

Can you hook up a satellite to this card?

Thanks again.

You can't hook the signal directly into the card and change channels with it if that's what you mean. But, you can hook the dish receiver up to it (just like you connect it to your TV) and capture the signal that way.
