Ok heres my problem I have 2 hard drives and Im trying to capture AVI from my digital camcorder. After 4 gigs I get an Error when captuing. Innsufficent hard drive space. I have 30 gigs on one drive and 13 on the other drive. more than enough room

here is what support says to do.

Problem:
When I tried to create a finished AVI file from my clips on a hard disk, the error message ""Insufficient disk space"" appeared.

Error Message:
Insufficient disk space

Solution:
It may be related to your hard disk space. Check the following:
1. Temp Directory
Assign a temp directory to a larger hard drive partition. For example, if your D drive has larger free space, you can create a \temp folder there and add the parameter 'Set TEMP=D:\temp' in AUTOEXEC.BAT.
2. Windows 95 virtual memory
Go to Control Panel: System: Performance: Virtual Memory. Virtual memory is by default set in the C drive. If the free space in your C drive is small, change it to another drive partition.
3. Cache setting of MediaStudio Pro
In MediaStudio, click the File: Preferences: Video Editor: Cache and Preview tabs. You can then set some directories for storing temporary files while rendering. Make sure that they are in different hard drives/partitions.

What does this mean? DO i need to partion my secong HD? please help me. if some one can explain what I need to do. thanks so much here is the link

The FAT32 file system has a limitation of 4GB, your best bet is to capture the video to a segmented AVI which can be manipulated by applications such as VirtualDub (eminently useful & powerful program, and it's free).

The reason you are running out of space is because you are using a RAW codec. So the data is not compressed. If using the MPEG4 codec 60min in really good quality would need less than 650mb. If you wish to do some video editing on the media using fat32, i suggest using a compressor, when capturing the video. Too my knowledge NTFS does not have the 4gb limit, so using either NT4 or Windows 2000 with compatible capture hardware, you would be fine. DivX may not be so suitible for video editing but it will get the job done on systems with limited hd space. (Do not ask where to get DivX)

If you only want to put 60min of video on your PC with no editing, get Windows Media Encoder 7 from microsoft.
It is a free download and a very good program. It creates WMV files, so you can put them on a server and your friends can stream them of the web using windows media player. WMV files is just MPEG4 in a costume. WME also compresses your data so file space should not be a problem. Windows 9x was never designed for video editing nor was FAT32, NT4 or Windows 2000 would be your best bet.

What video capture card are you using? Capturing directly to DivX is not a recommended method.
