Video Capture

I'm looking to setup a couple security cameras outside my house and would like to record what is going on on the computer. That way if anyonbe steals my CDs again, I can go to the computer and pull up what happened the night before. That way I will not have to deal with VCR tapes, etc. Anyone know of the products/software needed to accomplish this? A starter package would be good too..

for the school I work at. We've had some recent vandilism and want to curb (and catch) those who are particiapting. The thing I really want to avoid is huge files. If it would capture and compress into smaller, semi-good quality files. Any ideas?
