I have an Abit GF2MX, Athlon 1G.
I recently taped over my son's birth because I had not hit the write protect tab. Of course, I had not made a copy of the High8 original. I know that you can do capture onto your harddrive and then onto a cdr in a vcd type format, but I really do not know where to start. I have seen the Dazzle products, but would hope that I can use some of my existing hardware.
Thoughts and experiences would be appreciated.

It really depends on what kind of quality you're looking for. AS for burning it as a .vcd, its pretty easdy,. There's a lot of software out for that, but Adaptec easy cd and Nero also I think will burn to .vcd

Well if you want a really good deal on a good video capture card check this thread.
Studio PCTV Pro
This is at office depot, I was able to get one for $18 after taxes and so far I have had no complaints about it. This is only a video in, no tv out. Though if you want to get one for that price, buy it tonight or tomorrow because the rebate is only good for items bought between 01-24 to 02-17.

TonyG--Are you getting good resolution with that card? Have you tried ripping a video cd and playing it on your television?

I would like to be able to try playing a video cd on my TV but I do not have a dvd player. It runs at full screen on my monitor which is a 19inch KDS avitron set to 1600 by 1200. This card does not come with TV out, though I just use the TV out function on my video card if I want to watch something on my TV though it looks much better on my monitor. I have hooked my old camcorder up to it without any problems. The link to the thread in my previous post tells you what you need to do to get it for cheap, so I won't post that here.

I forgot to mention that this comes with Real Player G2 and Real Producer G2, but I do not know if these are the plus versions or the basic versions because I have Real Player 8 plus and Real Producer 8.5 plus.
