Video capture software

Hi,

I'm looking for a software that can record video of the screen, for example in Windows Media Player or in a browser window. I tried the trial version of Camtasia Studio but no matter what settings I chose, captured motion in the video seems "blurry" and there are ghosting effects.

Do you have a recommendation for me, please?

Windows Media Encoder will do this.

Expression Encoder will as well, but the free version has a 10 minute limit.

In any case, I suggest at least 5-6Mbps video bitrate for most desktop resolutions. Your software might have been blurry/ghosty because of poor quality settings.

I've been trying to figure out & have tried most screen cap programs I've seen suggested & they all have been a no-go. Generally bringing most games to an unplayable state of being a slideshow.
I really want to get into doing playthroughs of games for my Youtube. But until I figure out something that works, it's not quite happening.
Almost seems like I'm going to have to drop a bill on something expensive like a frame grabber, that I'm not sure will work how I need it to.
Trying to run the pc through my HDPVR is a no-go as well.

Thread marked for future reference when I can try some these new suggestions.

My friend mentioned he was using Bandicam for the videos he was putting on YT. Haven't gotten to try that yet either.

Really hope something will work. I have a huge Steam backlog to work on. I've avoided some games just because I can't figure it out & want to put the game play online.

I do a lot of video tutorials for my work, and have used Snagit (and thoroughly tried out several other top-rated softs also) since v8.0.0. The current v11.0.0, IMHO, just blows the doors off any other capture software I've ever used. Watch the video on this page: Capture Anything , to get an idea.

While I have never tried it I recommend you try Action! by Mirillis, their Splash Lite is a free HD media player and the quality is very good. when i watch my AVC home movies on my PC they are grainy but splash lite cleans them up.

Action! supports recording up to up to 8192x8192.

they have a free trial.

Dxtory, Xsplit, Camtasia, Adobe Flash media encoder

Adobe Flash media encoder is arguably the most advanced and it's free. The caveat is there is a learning curve.

Xsplit or Camtasia/Snagit are more user-friendly.

Really? Didn't know that.

Yep, WME is one of those fantastic and underrated free programs that MS wrote. Similar to Windows Live Writer; which remains, by far, the best blogging software I've seen and used.

The drawback of WME is being forced to use WM codecs. But when WMA9/Pro and VC-1 were implemented, it became a non-issue for me.

Yep. None of these worked for me.
Best method that seems like it'd work for me is running through capture card on another computer to take any/all processing power off the gaming computer.
Am surprised I can't find anything about doing that.

I was just trying out some of the programs. A really old version of "SNAGIT" (which I used long ago at work for projects) blows away the other stuff and records both video and sound. As usual, the problem with all of these capture programs is no doubt bloated and inefficient code.

Greetings, Zugdud here, just wanted to share a quick blurb about EpicRewind here:

EpicRewind is PC software which provides "instant-replay" or DVR like video capture functionality to PC games. When running, your gameplay video is continuously buffered in fast System RAM, the contents of this buffer can be saved to a file with the press of a hotkey. Instead of pre-planning a gaming video you can selectively save the highlight moments after they happen. Ideal for MMOs and Multiplayer games where 99% of the gameplay isn't worth sharing and the interesting stuff can happen at unexpected times.

The base version is free and can be downloaded here:
